On ATV Tire Chains
ATV
tire chains: The ATV is not simply a vehicle. It is an all terrain
vehicle.
And if you own an ATV you have to be proud with your choice!
It is a vehicle, which can be used on snow, mud and assorted slippery
conditions, on which a two-wheeler couldn't be used.
It also provides more maneuverability than other configurations.
But you know that sometimes the weather conditions can spoil everything!
Even your well-planned trip in the outskirts with your ATV.
Yes, it is difficult to believe that there IS something that can
stop one of these beasts on and off the road. Sometimes the terrain
is too slippery or steep and no matter the high quality of your
All- Terrain vehicle and its perfect tires, you still won't be able
to overcome the terrain. Luckily for you and your planned trip,
there are clever and resourceful people who have come up with the
solution of your problem. They invented something small and at first
sight unnecessary. The ATV tire chains...
The ATV has three or more tires attached the vehicle. These ATV
tires propel the vehicle over all terrains unreachable by conventional
motorcycle or automobile. Many owners use their ATV for fishing,
hunting, and explore new trail. Many use their ATV around the farm
or purchase an ATV for sports events.
During winter months and inclement weather, a snow blade can
be be attached to an ATV, and with ATV tire chains the ATV becomes
an invaluable tool for snow removal.
So, you see that the tire chains are something which should not
be underestimated. After all hey are made to help you when you need
their help.
So, there are a few types of tire chains. They are divided according
to their shape and sometimes to their features. The most popular
"attachment" of the all terrain vehicle tire chains is the V-Bars.
Some manufacturers produce 2- and 4-link tire chains. These chains
are V-bar reinforced and hardened for improved wear and long-lasting
use in demanding situations. In addition, the chains are easy
to securely install. The chains fit the following tire sizes:
22x11x8, 23x10.5x12 and 24x13x9.
The 2 link spaced v-bar reinforced ATV traction chains feature welded
v-bars on the twist link, case hardened cross chains for added traction
and durability.
Another type of ATV tire chains is the rear ATV tire chains.
They are produced to increase traction on ice and in deep snow,
and they must be used only with rear tires, but it doesn't matter
which ATV you have. It can be almost every brand of the all terrain
vehicles.
Another type of ATV tire chains are made for the most demanding
traction applications. Two robotically welded studs on every other
link provide extremely aggressive traction. And there is
more! The special diamond pattern allows for a smooth ride. They
have excellent performance in snow. Some are even zinc-plated for
added corrosion resistance. But you should keep in mind that these
tire chains are not applicable for Grizzly front tires.
There are also heavy duty all terrain vehicle tire chains. They
help for increasing the traction in extremely slippery conditions,
in which no other tire chains can cope with.
How To Check Your Chains...
First
you should check whether the chains you have are suitable for your
ATV or not. Pull completely off the road and out of the way of traffic.
Thus you will prevent a lot of troublesome accidents from happening.
Then turn off the engine before you start doing anything on the
tires of your ATV. Your next movies to lay the chains flat on
the ground so each side is parallel.
Make sure there aren't any twists in the links. After that, drape
the chains over each back tire, keeping the "speed hook" (or
"J hook") fastener on the inside. The other side of the chains has
a lever fastener with a "keeper" link.
Then make sure the smooth side of the cross member end hooks
is lying against the tires. You'll recognize these parts when
you see the chains.
Next reach behind each tire and fasten the speed hooks by inserting
the J hooks through the third link from the other end of the chain.
Pull the slack toward the outside edge of the tire.
Now you should pull your ATV forward several feet and pull the
rest of the slack toward you. Insert the lever fasteners through
the third links from the opposite ends of the outside chains and
pivot the levers back on themselves, then fasten them under the
keeper links. Then drive forward several feet, and pull all the
slack out of the chains and refasten them as tightly as possible.
There should be about the same number of loose links on each side
of the chains. And now secure these extra links with zip ties, or
remove them with bolt cutters.
There are some great deals available on ATV tire chains. You should
check with this site first though. It's my favorite site for ATV
accessories and parts.
